Does the Inland Revenue accept ordinary cheques dated 31st January and
presented ON 31st January?

Sorry. I should have been more specific. What I meant was: do they accept
such cheques as payment on time? Or must a cheque actually be cleared by
31st January?

I did it last year. That cheque bounced because I had messed it up in some
way. So I paid another at the post office a few days later. AFAIK, they were
happy enough.
